About Us
I started with zero dollars and a vision of determination. Fortunately, the earth and I have had a close relationship as long as I can remember. I started with the smallest of things, the tiny seed, tending to their growth until a bounty was manifest in beauty and hope.
I considered my unlimited abilities if only I had a heated nursery. I knew I could create a small business in which I could excel. But funds were low.
Good things began to happen when I purchased an empty lot on our street to start a community garden. This connected me to an opportunity of a lifetime through a local nonprofit called NECIC. Evidently the word got out about my skills and desire to help feed the world. So I was invited to join in the efforts to create a local cooperative and begin my own farm.
I wasn't sure I would have enough time to devote to the project until I heard the outcome would assure me to gain two 30' x 72' high tunnels. So I eagerly and joyfully got on board. And I literally became a member of the board. Now that I became a member of Richland Gro Op the next step was to form my own farm. This, Fulfillment Micro Farms LTD was formed in October of 2019.
We trained and worked hard our first three years in the project, applying all to our efforts. We grew, we harvested, we marketed and we succeeded. I invested everything back into my farm so I could grow and become more sustainable. It took time and a lot of hard work, and now here I am - six years later - with four locations and two acres of land to grow on.
The main farm is located in the heart of a food desert. Our goal here is to offer food accessibility to the community. Reaching out to help beautify the community and set an example of hope in building each other up together.
We still face some uphill battles, but now our biggest concern is growing enough to help fill the market with fresh healthy produce. At first we grew too much lacking a market. Now we could never grow too much and have to double production to keep up. Which is a good thing...smiles. Growth is inevitable. I know the sky is the limit because I watch all that I plant reach to the greatest heights.
OUR FUTURE -
Our future plans include
-a geothermal greenhouse nursery.
- Solar panels to power the farm.
- Aquaculture system for growing fish.
- Purchase more lots for production.
- On site farm market called "Vinny Veg."
NEW THIS YEAR -
For the next four years Fulfillment Micro Farms will be working with Central State University on a 3,000 sq ft lot testing to improve soil quality and sustainability. We chose the poorest lot to show the extremes. This should be an interesting and informative adventure.
